Notably, the third spring, housed within the rod, plays a crucial role in regulating the slide's movement to prevent it from slamming into the frame. The system is comprised of two washers of different lengths and two external springs.image

The washers exclusively affect the buffer force in the slide's full open position, while the external springs exclusively influence the slide's closed position, ensuring it's in the correct battery position. The shorter washer provides a lighter buffer effect, whereas the longest washer delivers the heaviest buffer effect.
